Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic

The PIDC will be temporarily closed from Sept 17-Oct 7, 2022.  Samples received prior to Sept 17 will be processed.

The Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic provides diagnosis of plant problems (plant diseases and insect damage) and the identification of insects from the field, garden, and home. The PIDC is a joint effort between Iowa State University Extension Plant Pathology, Entomology, Horticulture, and Agronomy.

Temporary Closure

Starting Sept 17, 2022, the PIDC will temporarily stop receiving plant samples for diagnostics for 3 weeks.  We will return to business as usual Oct 10, 2022. If the lab receives a sample after Sept 17, 2022 we will not be able to forward it to another lab, and you will have to re-send a new sample to another diagnostic lab or to us after Oct. 10th

Photos of plants and insects are still accepted during this time, but there will be a delay in responses. We apologize for this temporary closer and look forward to helping solve your plant and insect problems after Oct 10. 

Submitting a sample

Please e-mail or call 515-294-0581 if dropping off plant samples to ensure someone is there to take your sample.  Please mail plant samples early in the week to ensure they arrive by Friday morning.  

Closed on weekends and University holidays.
