Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic

The Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic provides diagnosis of plant problems (plant diseases, insect damage, and assessment of herbicide damage) and the identification of insects and weeds from the field, garden, and home. The PIDC is a joint effort between Iowa State University Extension Plant Pathology, Entomology, Horticulture, and Agronomy.

Please Do Not send money with your sample, you will receive a statement from ISU after your diagnosis is complete.

* Fee is for standard morphological and microscopic diagnosis. Additional fees may apply for specialized media, molecular and serological-based diagnostic methods. Molecular and serological-based diagnostic methods may be available for additional fee, see details at Plant Problem Diagnosis page.  We will contact you before any additional testing. 

Out-of-state residents

Contact us before submitting an out-of-state sample for fees and restrictions, or contact your local diagnostic clinic on the National Plant Diagnostic Network- NPDN


We are open weekdays 8:00am - 4:00pm. The doors to the ATRB building will lock at promptly at 4:00pm so try to arrive earlier. If for some reason you are going to be slightly later than 4:00pm please call us ahead of time at (515)-294-0581 and we can try to accommodate you.
