Lawn and Garden Spending Reached a Reported $36.1 Billion Dollars in 2015
The National Gardening Survey conducted by National Gardening Market Research reports that consumer spending for gardening jumped last year by more than 25% to $401 per household, up from a low of $317 in 2014. An estimated 90 million households, approximately 75% of all households, participated in gardening and landscaping activities (rather than hiring someone else to do it).
Peach leaves curling?
This week in the clinic we received an unusual set of symptoms on peach tree leaves. The leaves were puckered and distorted leaf blade had turned light green fading into pink or red. This disease is called peach leaf curl.
Pests in the Home Strawberry Patch
The harvest of June-bearing strawberries will begin in a few weeks. As home gardeners begin harvesting fruit they may encounter a few insect and disease pests. Possible pest problems include gray mold, sap beetles, and spittlebugs.
Properly Planting and Harvesting Rhubarb
Late spring to early summer is the prime time for rhubarb harvest and consumption. Knowing when to remove flower stalks and when to stop harvesting are important considerations to keep your plants producing as long as possible.
