The Iowa Master Gardener Program provides sound horticultural information to the citizens of Iowa through the volunteer efforts of trained Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners are residents of a community who take an active interest in horticulture. They receive training in horticulture through Iowa State University Extension. In return for their training, they volunteer in extension horticulture programs and projects which enhance the community.
If you would like to participate in a training program this fall or next spring please contact a county extension office listed below.
The following announcement is being forwarded at the request of the Farm Bureau Communications Resources Director, Barbar Lykins. The America the Beautiful Fund out of Washington, D.C., has 6 pallets of 5-50 pound bags of sweet corn and green bean seed for distribution to farmers and gardeners in Iowa who were affected by the flooding and whose gardens/fields were too wet to plant earlier this year. The seed was donated to them by the Harris Seed Company. I am not sure what varieties are available.
Plant galls come in a fascinating variety of strange forms, textures and colors. Some are irregular, bumpy, or warty; others are smooth and spherical.
