Research Supports Adding Monarch Breeding Habitat to Iowa’s Landscape

Research at Iowa State University, conducted as part of the Iowa Monarch Conservation Consortium, will provide information to help agriculture producers make decisions about the recent decline in monarch butterflies and to  encourage farmers to join the effort to reestablish milkweed and forbs that support monarchs during reproductive and late summer migrations across the state.  Read more in the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach news rele

Welcome New ISU Extension & Outreach Turfgrass Specialist

Dr. Adam Thoms joined the Horticulture Department on July 1 as Assistant Professor and Extension Turfgrass Specialist. His research will focus on helping the commercial turfgrass industry in Iowa including golf courses, athletic fields, and professional home lawn care companies.  


Emerald Ash Borer Confirmed in Harrison County

Emerald Ash Borer Detections in Iowa, Initial County Detections and Suggested Treatment Areas

The emerald ash borer (EAB) has been discovered in Missouri Valley, Harrison County. Iowa’s growing number of counties with confirmed detections has now reached thirty-five.  See the map below.  EAB has been detected in six new counties in Iowa this year.
