Welcome New ISU Extension & Outreach Turfgrass Specialist

Dr. Adam Thoms joined the Horticulture Department on July 1 as Assistant Professor and Extension Turfgrass Specialist. His research will focus on helping the commercial turfgrass industry in Iowa including golf courses, athletic fields, and professional home lawn care companies.

His program will conduct research and extension activities to understand best management practices that reduce inputs to turfgrass systems. These research projects will include improving root zone management, promoting best management practices for fertility and pesticides on turfgrass in Iowa, and improving athletic field safety and performance.

Adam is a native of Waverly, Iowa and obtained his B.S. degree from Iowa State in the Department of Horticulture with a turfgrass focus. He attended the University of Tennessee for both his M.S. and Ph.D.; he was also the Research Leader for the University of Tennessee Center for Athletic Field Safety.
